Catholic Woman’s Almanac {CWA}

Are you following along with us as we prepare our hearts for Advent? Each day of Advent, there will be a daily Advent devotional for women following the scriptures of the Jesse Tree.

new CWA

On this Feast of St Bibiana

Thanking God for…
::His most precious Word
::Huge pot of potato soup
::getting the laundry caught up right before the hunters/campers came home with bags of laundry

Looking out my window…
It’s Sunday evening when I start this. It’s dusk and it looks a little misty/foggy.

I am praying…
I am praying the St Andrew Christmas Novena. Click the link for a free printable prayer booklet.

I am pondering…
I am pondering how we keep our children sheltered from the world, but not ignorant of the world. I think this is a very tricky line to walk. I would love to keep my little family completely insulated from the world. But then what happens when my children leave our little “Catholic bubble”? They will be devoured by the wolves of the world. So I must be the one to introduce, slowly…slowly, bits and pieces of the world to them, in easy, digestible bites. But I really do not like these introductions. Even on my own terms they feel intrusive and noisy–ugly and scandalous.

I am reading…
My Bible

The Advent Reflections posted here at Suscipio.

I am creating…
You know I’m going to say Chris’ granny Square blanket. I told him the other day I love the fact that he’s tall, but for the purpose of the blanket, I wish he were about four foot tall so I could call it quits on this project.

I’m learning…
I am learning it’s ok to be misunderstood.

In the kitchen…
I signed up for Plan to Eat. Can you tell from this little spot in the weekly CWA’s I need some kitchen inspiration and help?

I’m Listening to…
Here by Kari Jobe.

I am looking forward to…
The Feast of St Nicholas this Friday (go read the real story)…and so are you! Stella, from Virgo Potens Rosaries and Virgo Potens Supplies, is giving away a St Nicholas Medal to one of you all here at Suscipio!

Although I would love for you all to sign up to receive Suscipio by email (upper right hand corner), and “Like” Suscipio on Facebook and follow Suscipio on Twitter, I won’t make you do any of those. Just leave a comment in the box here and then check back here on Friday, the Feast of St Nicholas and 3-2-1 day, to see if you’ve won or to congratulate the winner.

    Are you doing a Jesse tree or anything?

    • We are trying to do a Jesse Tree. I just ordered our ornaments though two days after the fact. Our old paper ones were shot. We’re really just reading the Scriptures. In the morning, we don’t get to it because we start school and chores. In the evening we have all that comes with evening time and bedtime and we’re praying the St Andrew Novena, so some days, it gets lost in the shuffle. That’s ok. I just want them to hear the Word and know there is a connection between the Old and the New Testament.

  4. Hiya!
    Great shot of your comfy living room.
    I am all set for the Feast of St. Nick.
    AND – a wise older woman once told me there is a difference between insulating and isolating. I believe we should insulate our children. We get to explain to them, from the right perspective, how our world works. Sigh – it’s a hard one!

    Blessings,
    Em

    Jenny, I love that you said though you would love us to sign up for email, like on facebook and twitter that it wasn’t required! I do the emails and facebook; haven’t wandered into the world of twitter yet!

    I am also loving the Advent reflections. So good for me.
    So here’s my entry!
    God bless,
    Angela F

    • Hi Angela. Thanks for the comment. I do understand the reasons why people ask those things for a giveaway. Blogging is about relationship first and foremost. But here it’s also about community and spreading the message of Suscipio, increases the number in community. I’m trusting God to help grow this community organically and sometimes you just want easy right? Like just enter your name.
