21 Days to a More Disciplined Life E-Book Club–Day 1Posted by Jenny on Sep 9, 2013 in Blog, Book Club | 20 comments
Welcome Ladies! Today is the first day of 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life. I am so excited and hopeful for the next 21 days. I had not finished reading through this wonderful ebook when I answered the inspiration to ask you all to join me in these 21 Days. As I read further, I was pleasantly surprised to to read…
“You can give yourself a boost by surrounding yourself with people who inspire and motivate you, rather than people who will discourage you or point out how far you have to go. Having positive influences around you makes an amazing difference.”
–21 Days to More Disciplined Life
So the very first thing I want to do is say thank you. Thank you to each one of you who are committed to not only making a change in your own life, but in encouraging a sister in Christ to make a change in her own life. This is a unique opportunity to live Suscipio. This website serves the purpose of encouraging and supporting women and coming along side each other for 21 Days to a More Disciplined Life is a beautiful example of Christian encouragement.
Let’s get started! Let’s discuss your thoughts about the introduction and Day 1. What do you think about this quote from Day 1
“…whether or not I live a disciplined life depends solely upon me and the choices I make on a daily basis.”
–21 Days to a More Disciplined Life
?Do you believe it or do you think if the author knew the variables in your life: nursing baby, lots of littles, husband working nights, single parent home, demanding job, medical problems…she wouldn’t be able to make such a claim?
I do have a nursing baby, I have myself some littles and I homeschool. I do not throw any of that up to say, “If I can do this, anyone can!” I’m sharing with you my running list of excuses. And I could give you more, trust me. What I need to do and continue to do is come up with some solutions any time I start to focus on my excuses.
These past 2 months, because I carried my exercise goals into September, I have over slept because the baby kept me up nursing through a growth spurt. I have had to rearrange the time I planned on working out because someone who needed me needed me now. And I have had to make some adjustments since we’ve started school back up. But the key is adjustments instead of the excuses. And rearranging feels so much better than excusing.
?Did this passage encourage you or discourage you?
This realization encouraged me. The solution was in me. The solution was me. I don’t have to check out one more book at the library or go through the reviews at amazon wondering if “this” book would help me get my act together. The solution was not in yet another color coded schedule, it was not obscure or secret or even unattainable. I already owned it, possessed it and could access it.
What’s your small project for the Practical Application?
I’m going to sit down in the living room and sort through the book baskets. They are a mess! This should be fun because as soon as I sit down I become a magnet.
?What’s your Mega Project?
I’m having a hard deciding on this one, what about you? I really need to finish Chris’ Granny Square blanket. I really need to read through some of these books I have accumulated before I purchase any more. I really need to clean out the garage. I really want to paint the living room. I really need to clean up my computer files and organize my pictures. I really want to move our desktop computer into the office for a quieter working space for me.
Ok I decided. I have 4 years worth of pictures cluttering up my computer and brain. Anytime I want a particular picture I have to look through all the others or play “Folder Roulette.” You know, where I try to use my overtaxed memory to guess which month or year I took the picture in. Plus, I do have them all on my external hard drive, but I need to upload them somewhere else just in case. So that’s my “Mega Plan,” getting my digital pictures in order.
So, let’s light up the comment box girls! Let discuss and encourage other.
P.S.–I made a calendar to help us track our progress. It feels so good to put a big ‘ol mark through each day as it’s completed!
